So many students struggle with doing a home practice. Aside from the
distractions which often present themselves, it is difficult to put a flow of
poses together or find appropriate music to play in the background. Some
students purchase DVDs in hopes of inspiring their home practice, but are
limited to practicing only in a room with a television, which many times leads
to further distractions and less privacy.
Simple Flow Yoga provides students with the same benefit of listening to an
instructor in class, but with the convenience of practicing at home. Using a CD
format, instead of a DVD, not only allows students to practice in nearly any
room of the house or even outside on a patio or deck, it also prevents students
from focusing on what someone else looks like in the poses and focus on how the
pose feels best for them. Finding their pose within the pose.
The Simple Flow Yoga practice is suitable for all levels of students. Unlike
many beginner yoga CDs, which spend a great deal of time detailing only a few
basic poses, Simple Flow Yoga is much like attending one of my classes. While I
do give verbal instructions to help you find the poses and remember your
breath, the practice is fluid and simple, allowing the student to move with
grace, comfort, and ease.
If you have never practiced yoga before, I would urge you to attend a beginner
yoga class or workshop before starting a home practice. Although I give verbal
cues throughout this practice, it is not intended as an instructional CD for
new students. A familiarity with the poses will make doing any CD or DVD at
home much more enjoyable.
My hope is that you not only enjoy this practice, but that it inspires you to
learn more about ways yoga can enhance your overall health and well-being.
Remember each time you come to the mat is a new and different experience.
Release judgment and expectation and allow your practice to flow, from moment
to moment.
